[MC Report] Served as Bilingual MC for the Kingdom of Eswatini’s Business Forum at Expo 2025
Hello, I’m Rie Sasaki — a bilingual MC and English communication professional based in Japan.
I had the honor of serving as the bilingual master of ceremonies (Japanese–English) for the Kingdom of Eswatini’s Business Forum, held as part of their national event at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
While most participating countries present cultural performances such as traditional dance and music during their national days, Eswatini’s choice to host a formal business forum was a first of its kind. The event welcomed a number of high-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister, ambassadors, and other distinguished guests.
My Role & Responsibilities
I was responsible for bilingual hosting in both Japanese and English.
In this event, I co-hosted alongside a professional MC from Eswatini who spoke fluent English, forming a collaborative two-MC structure to manage the cross-cultural delivery.
The forum required precise coordination and formality, as it was attended by key figures from both Eswatini and Japan’s government and business sectors.
Real-Time Adjustments & Flexibility
Despite detailed planning, the program experienced a delayed start and extended duration—about an hour behind schedule. Due to time constraints, a planned speech by the Japanese ambassador had to be cut.
In addition, several script changes were made just minutes before going live, including last-minute deletions and additions to the MC remarks. These unpredictable changes required real-time adaptation, professional composure, and clear communication with both the organizers and co-host.
Cultural Moments & Key Takeaways
One highlight was the introduction of the Prime Minister, which was delivered by a traditionally dressed representative in an elegant and ceremonial manner. The atmosphere shifted instantly, reflecting the deep cultural respect embedded in Eswatini’s protocol.
Even the way panelists were introduced during the discussion reflected Eswatini’s cultural values and unique presentation style. These moments provided rich insight into cross-cultural protocol and reinforced the importance of respectful and informed facilitation.
Post-Event Reflections
After the forum, I had the pleasure of personally greeting the Eswatini ambassador and co-host. Everyone I interacted with was warm, professional, and gracious — making the experience not only memorable but truly meaningful.
Looking Ahead
This opportunity reaffirmed the importance of adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and clarity in high-stakes, live international events.
As a bilingual MC experienced in government and corporate settings, I remain committed to delivering professional, flexible, and culturally appropriate facilitation for future events.
If you're looking for a bilingual MC with experience in international forums, I'd be happy to connect.
