[Expo MC Report] Barbados - Growth and Confidence Through the Handheld Mic

On September 17th, I had the pleasure of serving as the bilingual MC for the Barbados National Day celebration at the National Day Hall.
Since the program began immediately with live band and dance performances, I chose to use a handheld microphone for this event.

There are several MC styles — podium, stand, and handheld.
While the handheld mic allows freedom of movement and expression, it also requires practice since one hand is occupied.
After several rehearsals, I was able to perform smoothly and confidently on stage.

With less than a month left until the Expo’s closing, attendance keeps increasing — the venue was packed, even with people standing.
That atmosphere gave me the perfect mix of excitement and responsibility as I took the mic.

The most touching moment was when my mentor — the one who inspired me to become a bilingual MC — came to watch me on stage.
After the show, she said, “You looked confident and cool.”
Those words meant so much to me — a reminder of how far I’ve come, and how much passion I still carry for this path.
